It works on the basic principles of Ultrasonic waves. Ultrasonic Vibration creates dynamic shear stress in between the contacts of two workpieces. Due to local plastic (Energy Director) deformation and heat generated due to the friction between contact surfaces, The joint formation will take place at the interface.
At the start high-frequency current passes through the piezoelectric transducer. This Transducer converts high frequency electrical signals into mechanical vibration.
This vibration supplies to the Booster which amplifies the frequency. The amplified vibration frequency passes through Horn which is in contact with welding parts, this welding creates Lap joint. One part of the welding parts are fixed into the holding fixture and another one in direct contact with Horn.
The Surface which is in contact with the horn is under moderate force, horn supplies high-frequency mechanical vibration to the welding parts.
Due to this vibration, oscillation shear force act at the interface between welding parts, which results in plastic deformation at the interface. It also increases the localized temperature of the part due to mechanical force and friction. This heat helps in plastic deformation at interface and makes the strong joint.
